February 2007 - News Bulletin
World Record:
In December 2006, Phil Cooper (class 9, ARC5) took part in a series of attempts to break the World indoor speed record, organised by Autocar magazine. Various exotic machines were present, but it was Phil in his Autograss car that broke the record previously held by a Toyota Formula One car. The record is awaiting verification, but the NASA Directors would like to add their congratulations and recognition to Phil for this remarkable achievement.
Disciplinary:
On a less happy note, NASA must announce that Terry Winchester of SS club has been banned from holding a full NASA licence for 2007; this was for abuse of an official at the Ladies & Juniors Nationals 2006. Similarly, for abuse of officials at a BAS Round, Ged and Jacqui Power from ARC have been banned from holding full licences until 2009. However, Ged and Terry may apply for mechanics’ licences in 2007 so that they can supervise junior drivers. There are other long standing bans in place for other drivers, NASA will sort out a list of these and let all clubs have details before the season begins.
Vacant Positions:
Two people have expressed an interest in standing for election to the vacant position of Chairman of the League representatives’ committee. Another person has expressed an interest in taking on the position of Vice Chairman. Unfortunately none of these candidates have made an application in the correct manner, so their election cannot be considered at the next League representatives’ committee meeting on 25 th February. It is also the case that this meeting will no longer include an EGM (extraordinary general meeting), but it is hoped that an EGM can be called for the next league reps’ meeting on 16th April to sort out the vacancy and other company business.
Insurance restrictions:
It has been noted that the insurance covering all events does not allow any person to officiate beyond their 70th birthday – there are no exceptions. A driver may continue to drive beyond the age of 70, so long as he/she is entitled to drive on the highway and holds a valid licence. It will now be necessary for any driver to show their entitlement to drive on the road. Clubs will be informed how this should be done.
